Utah motorcycle move

Move a Motorcycle to Utah

Title and register your motorcycle, then handle insurance and your motorcycle endorsement separately.

The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.

  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

Register within 60 days after becoming a Utah resident. Residency can arise from a Utah domicile, six months of physical presence in a calendar year, nonseasonal Utah work without an interstate commute, a resident-only privilege, or a Utah driver license. Temporary military, qualifying student, and unpaid public, charitable, educational, or religious service exceptions may apply.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

Bring the out-of-state title. If a lienholder keeps it, use your current registration and lienholder information for Utah's registration-only process.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

A first Utah registration requires a VIN inspection on Form TC-661 unless the motorcycle is new and was acquired from an in-state dealer or manufacturer. Motorcycles do not need an emissions inspection.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

Meet Utah's insurance requirement and bring the ownership and registration records DMV requests.

Vehicle classification

Check the exact vehicle class

Transfer your base driver license and ask the Driver License Division whether your motorcycle endorsement will be recognized. Utah law does not require motorcycle policies to include PIP, but insurers may offer first-party medical coverage.
