Move an RV or Motorhome to Pennsylvania
Bring a motorhome into Pennsylvania while keeping its title, inspection, license class, and any towed vehicle separate.
Prepare the RV or motorhome before the office visit
The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.
- 1. Check when the application becomes due
Apply for the Pennsylvania title and registration within 20 days after establishing residency. Obtain the Pennsylvania driver license within 60 days, but determine the motorhome's required class before driving it.
- 2. Prepare the correct ownership record
An authorized PennDOT agent completes Form MV-1 using the original out-of-state title, Pennsylvania identification, proof of insurance, and VIN tracing or verification. Resolve a lender-held title before relying on a temporary plate.
- 3. Complete identification and inspection
Complete the newly registered motorhome's Pennsylvania safety inspection within 10 days. The official station checks the vehicle class and equipment; a converted or unusually classified vehicle can require additional title review.
- 4. Register the correct vehicle class
Register and insure the motorhome on its own record. Keep a towed car and recreational trailer on their separate titles and registrations, and confirm any county emissions requirement for the motorhome.
Check the exact vehicle class
A personal motorhome is excluded from the commercial-driver-license definition, but weight still controls the noncommercial class. A single motorhome over 26,000 pounds requires Class B; a combination rated at 26,001 pounds or more with a trailer over 10,000 pounds requires Class A.
